Tree Trimming & Pruning
Deadwood, clearance and crown work that keeps a healthy tree healthy.
Get a Quote →Storm-damaged, dead and leaning trees taken down across Gainesville and Hall County — including lakefront lots on Lanier, where the trees below your property line answer to the Corps of Engineers. Our own crew, our own crane, and 24/7 when a storm brings one down.
Gainesville sits on the arms of Lake Lanier, and a large share of the removals we price here are lakefront: a dead pine on the slope down to the dock, a leaning oak on the Corps strip, a tree that fell into the water during the last storm. Those jobs are decided by who owns the ground the tree is standing on, so that is the first thing we work out.
R & R Tree Service provides tree removal in Gainesville, GA, from our yard at 1381 Buford Highway in Buford — family-owned since 1987, TCIA members, licensed, bonded and insured. On your own land we quote and schedule the work; on Corps land we tell you exactly what the ranger will need before anyone picks up a saw. Call (678) 482-9994 for a free estimate.

Not until a Corps Park Ranger has rated it hazardous. Trees on the shoreline strip below your property line are on US Army Corps of Engineers land. To remove one, a Park Ranger first has to determine that it is hazardous; you send two photos — a close-up of the defect and a wider shot showing your house or dock — and flag the tree with tape or ribbon. If it qualifies, the Corps issues a Specified Act Permit, which is free and valid for 90 days.
Even with the permit, the Corps usually does not allow the wood to be removed from government property, and it does not allow equipment on it, so the job is hand work and the wood stays where it lands. If the ranger rates the tree low risk, it should not be removed — and clearing for a lake view or a lawn is not permitted at all.
Rules change. Confirm anything load-bearing with the local office before you cut — we do that check as part of every quote.
The Corps says a fallen tree in the lake that is not affecting your dock, its anchor cables or your boat access is usually low risk and should stay — it is habitat, not debris. If it is fouling the dock or the cables, ask your Park Ranger for a Specified Act Permit before anyone cuts it.
Hall County exempts owner-occupied homes from its tree protection zone, but points separately to its soil erosion ordinance for the undisturbed natural buffers kept beside Lake Lanier and other state waters. A lakeside tree can fall under a different rule from the one in your front yard, and below your property line the Corps decides.
On unincorporated Hall County land, the development code says removing trees to clear a lot without a development plan is not permitted, and significant trees or anything ten inches across and up need an approved tree protection plan. Dead, diseased or storm-damaged trees that endanger public safety are waived.
Georgia’s High-Voltage Safety Act bars a tree company from work that could bring people or equipment within ten feet of a line over 750 volts until the utilities protection center has had 72 hours’ notice, weekends and holidays excluded, and the utility has made the line safe. On the narrow lake roads, a tree leaning over the service line is scheduled, not rushed.
UGA’s Bugwood Center advises that dead pine trees should be removed by a qualified professional, and Georgia Forestry Commission surveys logged 273 southern pine beetle spots in 2023 and more than 1,600 in 2024. A crown fading from green to yellow to red-brown, with popcorn-sized pitch tubes on the bark, is the pattern to call about.

Not on unincorporated Hall County land without a plan. The county’s code says removing trees to clear a lot without a development plan is not permitted, and significant trees or anything ten inches across and up need an approved tree protection plan. Dead, diseased or storm-damaged trees that endanger public safety are the exception.
Get the name and contact details of the Corps Park Ranger for your stretch of shoreline now. The Corps says its office can get hundreds of hazardous-tree calls in the week after a big storm. On your own land, deal with dead or leaning trees in autumn, while crews are free.
Only if it is in the way. The Corps says a fallen tree that is not affecting your dock, its anchor cables or boat access is usually low risk and should stay. If it is affecting them, ask your Park Ranger for a Specified Act Permit before anyone cuts it.
Not necessarily. Hall County exempts owner-occupied homes from its tree protection zone, but the undisturbed buffers beside Lake Lanier sit under its soil erosion ordinance, and below your property line the Corps decides.
